Situated on Vicar’s Road, St Martin’s parish church is a Grade-1 listed building and can be clearly seen from the viewing point on Parliament Hill. It is one of the principal surviving works of Edward Buckton Lamb, one of the imaginative and challenging ‘rogue’ nineteenth-century architects. Nikolaus Pevsner describes St Martin’s as ‘the craziest of London’s Victorian churches’. This building was built between 1864-66 and has been a place of beauty, prayer and stability for over one hundred and fifty years. Through the many changes this community has seen, it has remained at the heart of local life. It is a venue for music, drama, spoken word and community outreach, offering a warm welcome to all.
